Marshall Likes Clemson; Top 6 Updated

After this quick article at goupstate.com we have updated Keith Marshall’s top six schools.  He finally saw a team he was visiting win a game with this visit to Clemson – though it was a close one.  He was 0-3 after visiting Georgia, Notre Dame and Florida.  His fifth official visit is going to be to USC in two weeks.  He has also listed North Carolina – he is from Raleigh and likely been to the Chapel Hill campus on a few occasions as a finalist.  That has been updated at his F5S page.  He is expected to make his decision soon after that visit to Los Angeles.  They will announce at a press conference at the school.  We will be all over that.

Johnathan Gray Continues Assault On Record Books

Johnathan Gray

Johnathan Gray and his Aledo High School team continue their season Friday night against Mansfield Summit at Burleson.  This is the second round of the playoffs after Aledo undressed Fort Worth Dunbar in the first round.  Gray was overshadowed in that particular game by his quarterback Matthew Bishop, who was likely benefiting from the defense keying on Gray as he threw for 374 yards in the game.  Gray had a pedestrian (by his standards) 26 carry, 193-yard, three touchdown performance as he threatens multiple Texas State and National rushing records.  It is detailed here by Corbett Smith at dallasnews.com.

Mario Edwards vs. Dorial Green-Beckham

This is an interesting comparison between two of our F5S follows as the crimsonandcreammachine.com (OU fan site) did a video comparison and then talked about the two prospects.  According to our five ranking services, Green-Beckham holds the slight edge over Edwards for the top spot.  Check out the article here.

DGB To Play in US Army All-American Game

The consensus No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the nation Dorial Green-Beckham will play in the January 7th All-American Game at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.  That could also very well be the right time and place to announce where he will continue his career.  As mentioned – he is believed to have narrowed his search to five schools: Oklahoma, Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas.  Dorial’s record-breaking career will continue and his decision will be one of the most followed announcements from the entire Class of 2012.  The Springfield News-Leader pointed out the sensitive nature of the recruiting process as Dorial’s younger brother Malachi was wearing a Texas Longhorns t-shirt and was asked to cover it up when it came time to take a family picture.  We will keep a close eye on DGB and his situation as he starts making his official visits to schools.

Dorial Green-Beckham Struggles In Final High School Game

Green-Beckham

This wasn’t the way Dorial Green-Beckham envisioned his shining high school career to end.  In a 49-0 loss to defending State Champion Webb City in Springfield.  DGB was held to just seven catches for 58 yards and the Webb City defense did a nice job making sure he couldn’t get down field and make his patented big plays.  They kept him contained all game and the Hornets had no answer for Jamison Cady and the triple option attack of the Cardinals.  The game was never in doubt.  Cady, a senior at Webb City found the end zone five times in the game with scoring runs of 1, 38, 5 and 7 yards out.  For Green-Beckham, the focus changes now to the recruiting trail.  He will be courted by some of the biggest football programs in the country.  His five finalists are believed to be Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri and Texas.  A decision is expected in the next month or so as he will officially take his five allotted visits to Universities.

Landon Collins Invited to UA All-American Game

Landon Collins

Landon Collins will get his official invitation to the Under Armour All-American Game in St. Petersburg, FL (Tropicana Field).  The jersey presentation will take place in the cafeteria of Dutchtown High School in Geismar, LA on Wednesday, November 16th.  Landon joins fellow F5S prospects Mario Edwards, Johnathan Gray, Noah Spence, Eddie Goldman, Keith Marshall and Nelson Agholor in the big game on January 5, 2011 televised on ESPN.

Spence Not Crossing Penn State Off His List

According to PennLive.com top recruit Noah Spence is not giving up on Penn State University amid the firings and controversy surrounding the program.  His father, Greg Spence said that the Bishop McDevitt High star is still interested in the school.  This, despite a recent tweet from Noah himself (@nspence94) that claimed “um psu might be a no no for me eww”.  After taking a step back and looking at the situation they have decided not to come to any rash decisions.  Keep in mind, Noah is a defensive end and the former defensive coordinator Tom Bradley has taken over at head coach and was not affected by the firings.  Bradley has been in the coordinator role since Jerry Sandusky retired in 1999.

Big Visits Upcoming for DGB, Diggs

Dorial Green-Beckham will visit Texas on 11/19.

As their Senior seasons wind down, the recruiting trail gets even hotter for our prospects.  No. 1 recruit Dorial Green-Beckham is scheduled to visit the University of Texas on Nov. 19 when the current #21 team in the Nation takes on #17 Kansas State.  Texas is known for winning over potential recruits on visits.  One sticking point for DGB might be that another one of our follows, Johnathan Gray has committed some time ago and would be an awfully crazy 1-2 punch if the Longhorns can somehow get it done.  For those wondering if DGB will be taking in the Mizzou-Texas game at Columbia this weekend – he will be a little distracted as he and Hillcrest have a big playoff game against No. 1 Webb City at 1:30 PM.  The Tigers play the Longhorns starting at noon.

Another visit that will take place in a few weeks (leaving some time for a playoff run) is Stefon Diggs planning to take in Gainsville, Florida and the Gators.  That visit will take place Nov. 26th when the Gators play host to the heated rival Florida State – another candidate on Diggs’ shortlist.  We will keep an ear out for any rumblings following these visits.

Where They At This Weekend?

Let’s take a quick look at where our ten guys will be this weekend as many are winding down their games seasons and some are entrenched in their State Championship runs…

Dorial Green-Beckham is playing Saturday (11/12) at 1:30 PM against #1 seed Webb City (12-0) in the Class 4A quarterfinals.  Many think this will be the final game for the Nation’s top recruit.  However, as well all know DGB has the ability to take over a game himself.  That said, the Cardinals haven’t even been challenged this season.  DGB has 112 catches for 2,176 yards and 24 TD’s this season so far.

Mario Edwards and his Denton-Ryan squad puts their 10-0 record on the line tomorrow (Friday 11/11) at 7:00 PM vs. Amarillo Caprock (8-2) in the first round of the Texas 4A-Division I playoffs.  While they are expected to win, during the playoffs you NEVER know.
